Scala Open Source Community and Governance
From Lift
These following are notes on the "Scala Open Source Community and Governance" session of the Scala lift off conference. They were taken at a the summary of this session, as presented at the final wrap-up event. People who actually attended the session and took notes should also contribute.
- Plans for governance:
- Based off of Python
- Martin directs evolution of language from EPFL
- But open process to community via SIP
- Spec-like process for improvement
- Martin has last word
- Intellectual property
- Trademark for Scala? Pluses or minuses
- May be some advantages, but Martin doesn't want to deal with it
- We need people in community to deal with that stuff
- Scala libraries
- Scalax: Approved migration path from community --> scalax --> scala standard library
- Scalax weighted to Scala libraries with few jar dependencies
- We need a way to have Scala libraries that leverage off of Java jars
- There was a discussion of Maven vs sbaz, migrate to mailing list
